A Walking Tour of the Trees in Huntsville's Historic Areas
![]() |
The Walking Tour of Huntsville's Trees was originally published as a companion to the brochure, A Walking Tour of Huntsville, Alabama. These materials have been adapted for publication as a web document. No tree lives forever - they die from weather damage, disease, construction effects, and other causes. However, we believe that with proper care any tree, planted in a soil that meets its needs, situated where it will have room to flourish and attain its finest stature, can be a "good tree." We hope that residents and visitors will appreciate the diversity of our trees, will strive to learn more about them, and will support good management of public trees in our city. The current version of this list was published in 2002. We hope you will download the "pdf" version of the Guide and take the tour. By car, it's a nice drive through the older parts of Huntsville. On foot, you get to know the trees better. A bike is an ideal compromise. However you do it, please be careful in traffic, and remember to respect the rights and privacy of property-owners along the tour. A printed copy of this illustrated brochure may be obtained by calling the Urban Forestry & Horticulture Section (256-883-3707), or by sending us an email request. Be sure to include your name and mailing address. |
